Birth Doula

Detailed here is a typical birth doula package but it can be tailored entirely to your individual needs this is intended to give you an idea of the support available.  (Please note additional meetings to those detailed may incur additional charges).

  • 2 sessions before the birth (these will be approximately 2 hours long)

These sessions are important for establishing our relationship; you are openly invited to ask questions; discuss fears and/or concerns, we will discuss in detail a birth plan and think about what you would like to happen in a variety of scenarios to ensure you have thought of and are aware of all your options and their implications.

These are tailored entirely to your requirements and will cover a wealth of information, (please see antenatal doula section for possible topics).  We would also recommend that your other birth partner attend, (if there is one), as they are important too and it is imperative to explore their feelings.

  • On call for you 24/7 from week 38 of your pregnancy until you have the baby
  • Phone and email support which you can use as little or as much as you want to, up to approx 6 weeks after baby is born
  • Loan of relevant books if appropriate
  • Presence at the Birth

We will discuss   beforehand our relationship at the birth and what you want or don't want   us to do.       We will also provide you with information and ideas if you have no definate requests.       We are   here as your advocate and   our aim is to help you achieve your wishes whether it be for an un-medicated birth or if you are having a planned caesarean.   The role of a doula is not to choose your type of birth only to ensure you have a safe and pleasant birth although it is true that fewer interventions are generally needed when a doula is present.       We strongly believe in natural birth but even if you know you want a medicated birth, a doula is hugely beneficial for emotional and informational support and for comfort alongside the medicated measures as even medication will not take all the discomfort away.

  • A postnatal visit to review the birth and discuss anything the Mum then wishes
